I recently went to New York City with my best friend and spent 3 days there! We didn’t go into the weekend with a plan because there’s just SO many things to do there. It wasn’t our first time in NYC, so we tried doing more “local” activities, here’s what we got into!
Where We Stayed
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Metropolitan. We LOVED this hotel. First of all it was right next to a subway stop, so it was easy to get around everywhere! The room was nice, the staff were very helpful and it’s reasonably priced. Doubletree also gives you a warm cookie as soon as you walk in, kind of perfect right?
Thursday night we got in around dinner time. SAVING $ TIP: we took the subway basically the whole time and it saved us SO much money. Get the card at the airport and you can get into Manhattan for around $5!
The hotel is close to Times Square so we just walked around there for a little while. It’s not my favorite place in NYC but I haven’t been there in awhile so it was a must.
We got drinks at Rudy’s Bar & Grill and OMG THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE BAR. Disclaimer it’s 10000% a dive bar. It’s a small place in Hell’s Kitchen with a pig, that looks like the piggy wiggle out front. The beer is SO cheap and best part is that you get a hot dog with every beer! The bartenders were so nice and all the locals there were very kind to us! I would highly recommend if going out in Hell’s Kitchen and you don’t want to spend $20 on a cocktail. There’s a bunch of other bars to hop around too!
We started off our morning with coffee, of course, and then headed over to walk around Chelsea! It’s a really cute neighborhood to explore. After, we went into the Museum of Illusions! I would highly recommend checking this out. It’s only $20, cool photo ops and lots of mind games. We had a blast!
It was a decently nice day out for being late February, so we walked to Washington Square Park took some pics and went on our merry way. If it was nice outside, that would be a perfect spot to bring some lunch and sit outside!
As we were making our way back to the hotel, we stopped at Tipsy Scoop! It’s a liquor-infused ice cream shop! Need I say anymore?! The decor is adorable and it was most perfect stop on our way home!
We got up early and went to our favorite meal, brunch. So I think you can guess, there are a TON of brunch spots in NYC. We weren’t necessary looking for the best food but for a place with unlimited libations. We ended up going with Agave in Greenwich Village. (Make sure to make a reservation EARLY! They book up pretty fast on the weekends). It was all you can drink with an entree for around $45, including tip. The food was honestly really good and the waiters were very attentive, even when they were really busy. We got the huevos rancheros and the Egg White Frittata, SO good!
After brunch we explored The Color Factory! This was the only thing I really wanted to do and I would highly recommend; mostly for all the cool photo ops and giant ball pit!! It has a bunch of different, very colorful rooms and most of them were very interactive (which I love)!
After the Color Factory, we went to see the new World Trade Center stop, the oculus! We took our time and walked around the financial district!
Always have to work in nap time in New York! Back story, a little earlier in the day we got tickets to see Aladdin!! There are a bunch of different lotteries you can enter in the morning, like this one! You can also buy tickets from the ticket counter under the “red stairs” in Times Square. We ended up just buying off of Ticketmaster which was more expensive but we really wanted to see this play. I would 100% recommend seeing Aladdin. The set, costumes and acting are above amazing. The Genie had us cracking up the whole time!
So our last day was mostly just a travel day. We had an early afternoon flight so we grabbed breakfast and made our way to the airport.
It was a very short trip but any trip to New York is worth it!
Until next time. XOXO
